Surfers Teriyaki Burger

Surfers Teriyaki Burger
Kalapaki Joes
Poipu, Kauai

So I had seen a whole heap of Teriyaki burgers on menu's around Hawaii and I thought it was about time that I tried one.  Well......this is one burger that I will be replicating at home.  The cheese was well melted and thick, the onions well cooked and the patty was very well cooked and seasoned.  The one defining feature was the thin teriyaki sauce that had been poured over the cheese and patty.  This moistened the whole burger and each bite was a flavour explosion!
Pro's : Fast service, the lettuce as a base layer is always good.  Moist tasty patty, good cheese, great onions.  The bun was perfectly toasted
Con's : A little messy to eat due to the amount of teriyaki.

This is one Spectacular Burger

The Double Slopper

The Double Slopper
Bubba's Burgers
Hanelai Bay, Kauai

Okay, So I know that this is not exactly an Australian burger but I feel that it it important to try burgers from around the world so here is the first international burger rating!  I couldn't think of a more fitting contender than the Double Slopper.  Truth be told, I had to go to the doctors following this burger because it did bad things to my digestive tract.......but we are here to talk taste!
Pros - This burger was all about excessive flavour and it had it in spades! An open faced double cheese burger covered in chilli con carne and topped with raw onion....It even came with a serve of water crackers although I'm not sure why.  The bun was tasty, the patty  was well seasoned and the cheese perfectly melted.  Even the chilli was very good.
Cons - The raw onion was a bit much and the amount of food on the plate was excessive even by american standards.
Price was $7.50US
This was an experience and entirely worth the pain....It was impressive in its vision!

Double Slopper 8/10

Double Cheese Burger

Double Cheese Burger
Bobby's Diner
Shellharbour
Pros - Awesome burger with super tasty pattie that went to the edge of the bun. Well seasoned, well sauced. I was put off by the large non chopped lettuce but I was pleasantly surprised by the crispness and the freshness it added to the burger. load of cheese melted well, the bun was perfectly toasted.

Cons - none

I loved this burger, being in Shellharbour its relatively local, they have a selection of burgers so I will go back and rate some more but this burger gets a 9.5 from me.....hard to beat!

Bobbys Double Cheese Burger - 9.5/10

Outback Burger

Outback Burger
Outback Steakhouse
Fairy Meadow
Pros- Good size, comes with chips, awesome smoky BBQ sauce patty was a good
thickness and moisture, came with egg and cheese as standard.
Cons - Pricey at $14.50, bun not toasted enough resulting in the burger
falling apart. wouldn't get another one really....the ribs were better!

Outback Burger - 7.5/10

Highway Burger

Highway Burger
Caltex Service Station
Macksville

I guess you would have to call this a Truck stop burger by definition but the servo in question is close enough to my home that I often hit this as my standard take away option. There are quite a few T/A shops in Macksville considering how small the town is and this is the one that I would recommend.

Cost - $6.50

Comes with shredded lettuce, shredded carrot, cuccumber, tomato, beetroot, grilled onion, cheese and bbq sauce as standard order. Meat patty is a modest size but flavoured well and spans the size of the bun which is lightly toasted and topped with sesame seeds.

Pros: - affordable - open 24 hrs 7 days a week - flavoursome - generous toppings

Cons: - Can be waiting for a while if a bus load of tourists get in before you -little bit of spillage from shredded ingredients. Only very little drippage. - presentation can be a little squashed from bag.

Overall 7.5/10 for truck stop burger.

Alrighty....A burger rating Blog.....Very original right? There will be ratings and discussion from 4 of the east coasts premier burger aficionado's.
The burgers will be divided into 2 key categories, Take away and Cafe/restaurant.

Burger Judge and Co-founder Smee came up with the following guidelines for future posts that will be followed,
I thought (to begin with) we can try and Identify a few points when making our entries

* Where the the burger was purchased, including the style of the eatery (i.e. Takeaway, Cafe, Restaurant, Truck stop etc)

* Cost of Burger

* What came on the burger as standard when presented to you. (must not ask shopkeeper to amend any part of the burger. It's just how it comes when you ask for the burger).

* A few Pros and Cons about the burger.

* An overall Satifaction Rating out of 10 (Using 1/2 point increments is ok but lets avoid scores like 3.3333333333 repeater and so forth. Just make it 3.5 for example ..... you get my drift

* This is IMPORTANT. We all have phones that can take photos so lets get some pictures of each burger so that the other members can have a visual representation of the aesthetics and presentation of our mighty meaty meals...... Also to prove that you actually got one! This may not always be possible but please try to get a snapshot if possible.

Please dont hesitate to provide any other suggestions for judging criteria as you come up with them.

Smee out...
